THE INFINITE CONVERSATION
The Infinite Conversation is a surreal, Chaplin-inspired performance that merges pantomime, projection mapping, and oversized, dynamic props. The story follows The Mover, who embarks on unpacking his belongings in a new space. As everyday objects come to life and challenge his perception, he is gradually pulled deeper into the labyrinth of his subconscious.
The development of The Infinite Conversation began in 2016, when Sumner first collaborated with visual FX artist Ricky Johnson on smaller projects. Johnson has since become an integral part of the team, serving as visual FX producer and co-director. Unbeknownst to Sumner, he had also been shaping a character study through his monthly nightclub performances, with his final nightclub debut, I’m Just an Idea, taking place in April of 2017.
Each chapter of The Infinite Conversation has premiered at Creative City Project’s IMMERSE festival, with the final chapter, INSOMNIAC, making its main-stage debut in October 2019. The production's revised and full-length version premiered at The International Orlando Fringe Festival in 2021, receiving critical acclaim and a Critic’s Choice Award for its “intoxicatingly surreal” imagery and technical ambition.
